Criminal Investigation Bureau Solved the Case of 10 Suspects including Zhou Helping Suspect Zhu to Abscond

五、Location of Seizure: Kaohsiung City, Taipei City, Taichung City, and others.

六、Suspects Arrested: 10 Suspects including Suspect Chen, Suspect Tsai, Suspect Chen, Suspect Ceng, Suspect Lin, Suspect Xia, Suspect Zhou, Suspect Zhong, Suspect Zhong, and Suspect Zhong.

七、Spoils and evidence seized: 9 mobile phones, NTD400,000 in cash, 2 passports, 2 ATM cards, 3 copies of borrowing contract, one pamphlet related to selling yachts, 2 bank passbooks, 2 stamps, and 3 outward remittance vouchers from Cathay United Bank.

八、Case Summary:
(一)Taiwan Taipei District Prosecutors Office – Prosecutor Bo-Rong Yen of Dong Section commanded the International Criminal Affairs Division of Criminal Investigation Bureau and collaborated with Investigation Corps of Investigation Branch, Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council, Xinyi Precinct of Taipei City Police Department, Dajia Precinct of Taichung City Government Police Department and initiated to pursue major fugitive Zhu who absconded overseas. The case underwent long-term data collection while 50 polices were mobilized on February 26, 2024 to draw in at all offices in Taiwan. Zhou was apprehended for violation of Immigration Act, concealing criminals as well as other accomplices. The case was transferred to Taipei District Prosecutors Office on record on May 27, 2024.
(二)The case was trialed at Taipei District Court. The first instance claimed that Zhou, captain Zhong and his 2 sailor sons, Zhong and Zhong, were suspected of violating the Immigration Act and were sentenced to 10 months to 1 year and 2 months of prison. The girlfriend of Zhu – Suspect Chen, father of the girlfriend – Suspect Chen, diamond businessman – Suspect Xia and Lin, were suspected of “Offenses of Concealment of Offence” and were sentenced to 6 months to 10 months of imprisonment. Nonetheless, the main suspect Zhu and his girlfriend Chen were on the run and have not turned themselves in as of today.
(三)The criminal defendant convicted of sentencing took the risk and absconded overseas via various modes in order to prevent imprisonment and facing long sentencing. The Criminal Investigation Bureau shall collaborate with various overseas liaison officers and strengthen the collaboration with offshore law enforcement, in order to pursue fugitives on the run, and bring them to justice for judicial effectiveness.
